Taverne Cutlery: Authentic Greek cosiness at the table.
Imagine a tiny Greek village perched on a hill, the kind you can only reach on foot or via a rickety donkey path. There is no sign of modern life here, just the distant sound of waves and the smell of the sea in the air. At the heart of this hidden gem lies a small taverna, its whitewashed walls glowing golden in the evening light. The host, a jolly man with a belly as big as his smile, welcomes you like an old friend. Before you even ask, he is pouring you a glass of local wine, on the house, of course.
This is the feeling we captured with Taverne cutlery. Each piece evokes the rustic charm of a Greek tavern table, where meals are simple yet extraordinary. The handles are made with a timeless design that recalls weathered wood and sun-warmed stone, while the knives shine like the waters of the Mediterranean. Perfect for enjoying freshly caught fish, crusty bread soaked in olive oil or a salad sprinkled with feta straight from the farms in the hills.
With Taverne cutlery, every meal becomes a little escape to that dreamy village, where the food is unforgettable, the wine endless and the host's laugh resonates in your heart.
The 24-piece set is for 6 people and consists of 6 dinner knives, 6 dinner forks, 6 dinner spoons and 6 dessert spoons. Each cutlery item consists of a stainless steel blade, a plastic handle and an aluminium ornament in the middle. The materials are of very solid quality. The blade is 2.0 mm thick, does not bend and is made of 18/10 stainless steel. The handle is made of acrylic, a strong plastic with a smooth, slightly glossy effect. The colour will not wear off because it is applied throughout the entire handle (and not as a thin coating on the surface).
The knives have a fine serration. They therefore remain sharp and cut well. The set is delivered in a cutlery cassette made of European softwood: nice to give as a gift and handy for in the cutlery drawer.
The cutlery is dishwasher safe. We recommend washing it at a maximum temperature of 55˚ C.

Technical information handle:
PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) is a transparent thermoplastic better known as acrylate. This strong plastic can be easily modelled into all kinds of shapes when heated. The material is transparent and therefore very suitable for imitating the mother-of-pearl effect characteristic of this cutlery.
Technical information blade:
AISI 430 is a stainless steel type to which chromium has been added. This type of steel is often used for cutlery because it can be shaped well (spoons and forks), has a strong gloss layer and does not rust quickly.
AISI 420 is a stronger stainless steel type to which carbon has been added in addition to chromium. This steel is less easy to bend and is very suitable for making knives. With a heat treatment, this steel is extra hardened (HRC52/56) so that the cutting edge is less likely to be damaged and stays sharp for longer. It is also highly resistant to rust formation.
HRC52/56 is the standard used to indicate the hardness of steel. This type of steel will not break easily and is less susceptible to rust formation.
18/10 stainless steel is a type of steel to which 18% chromium and 10% nickel have been added. Chromium gives the steel a durable shiny finish and nickel protects against rust. There are also types of cutlery steel (18/8 and 18/0) to which less or almost no nickel has been added. These are slightly less resistant to rust.
